Description
During the past few weeks, you have become familiar with some major challenges to health care and treatment of transgender persons. This week introduced a strength care-based approach which has an important role to play in the treatment outcome.
This week, you will write a short paper explaining what strength-based health care is and how it can be applied to transgender groups to optimize the positive treatment outcomes and help this population take control of their own specific (if any) health needs.
Length: 2-3 pages (for Options 1 and 2)
References: Include a minimum of 3 scholarly resources.
The completed assignment should address all of the assignment requirements, exhibit evidence of concept knowledge, and demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the content presented in the course. The writing should integrate scholarly resources, reflect academic expectations and current APA standards

****More and more we recognize that people need to become in charge of their own care needs to become experts in it and not just people who need help from someone else. That way, nobody tells them what they need, but they (with the help of others) take responsibility for their own lives. A strengths-based approach (https://positivepsychology.com/strengths-based-int…) to care, addresses this concept. A strengths-based approach supports the concept of inclusion of people in their care by looking at the resources people possess, what skills they have, and how they relate to their communities and relationships.
In the transgender community, this is a very relevant and useful approach because it shifts the negative outlook to communication and social interaction into their positive contributions and skills. Instead of focusing on issues and obstacles in front of them for the sole reason of being transsexual, the approach enables them to focus on their identity as people with important and useful skills that can not only benefit themselves but the community at large.
At times, the strengths-based approach and asset-based approach are used interchangeably but both relate to different elements that help/enable the person to deal with challenges of life, in general, achieving their desired outcomes in particular. We can apply this to anyone having any challenge but when applied to the transsexual population it can have a profound effect on their quality of life.
The elements of the strength-based approach include:
- Personal resources such as skills, knowledge, etc.
- Social network and its resources
- Community resources
