I will be using qualitative method of data collection in my scenario. Qualitative research involves the studied use and collection of a variety of empirical materials – case study, personal experience, introspective, life story, interview, observational, historical, interactional, and visual texts – that describe routine and problematic moments and meanings in individuals’ lives (Denzin and Lincoln 2005:2). (Aspers & Corte, 2019). In an asylum camp in Gothenburg, Sweden, the rate of malaria prevailing was seriously alarming. This camp was surrounded by standing waters and unattended dumpsters. Qualitative data was collected using focus group discussions (FGDs), from six villages three each from urban and rural areas of Enugu state, Nigeria (Ugochukwu et al, 2019). Another reason for using the qualitative approach is because the scenario here makes mention only to a particular group of people. This camp hosted approximately 300 undocumented immigrants. Due to this alarming rate of malaria, a team of health professionals were invited to assess the situation and come up with a solution to this health crisis. Mind you, Sweden is one of those countries in the world where malaria is very uncommon and handling this situation was a bit challenging.

The data that could be used in this scenario was the results of labs drawn to determine who has been infected by the malaria parasite. The data would be collected by taking blood samples from everyone in the camp regardless of any presenting symptoms.

The knowledge derived from this data would be the results of the sample collected from each asylee. The results would ultimately tell who has been infected and therefore treatment would commence. Luckily enough, malaria is not a transmissible disease, thus no cause for alarm. Nurse leaders need evidence-based interventions to support shared learning and to create infrastructures that facilitate competence development (Lunden et al, 2017). As a nurse leader, I would want to know and understand the root cause of malaria in that community. In addition, I would be able to determine that the cases of malaria in that community have some solid evidence. The surrounding factors namely standing waters and uncovered dumpsters are breathing grounds for mosquitoes which cause malaria. I would contact the Health and Environmental Services to immediately take action against those two favorable conditions for breeding mosquitoes. With no standing waters and dirty surroundings, mosquitoes would find it extremely hard to survive. Furthermore, my knowledge of malaria has forced me overtime to come to terms with the fact that mosquito nets have played a significant role in preventing the disease.
