Fisher explains two different narratives, including their use and situations. Recounting is a retelling of recollections that chronicles a family’s perspective of their history. Accounting includes justifications or explanations for the actions or circumstances of other people. Family stories can fulfill one or both purposes.

I recount my sister and my childhood in India. This is a story regarding our school in India. So my sister and I are twins, and I am seven minutes older than her. My parents wanted us to study in a private English international school with around 9,000-10,000 students. The incident I recall is that my sister and I did not separate ourselves in class. There were different sections, for example, grade 1- sections A, B, C, etc. I do not know how but the teacher separated my sister and me into different sections. I was okay with that, but my sister became sad and less talkative. At home, she refused even to eat food and used to cry a lot at night. So, my parents wondered what was wrong with her. And the next day, my dad visited the school, and he came to know that we were in different class sections, and that was why my sister was very sorrowful. After that incident, my father talked to the principal, and after requesting him, the teachers shifted my sister into my section since we were in the same grades and areas.

In accounting, I will share my aunt’s behavior. When we moved to the U.S.A., things were great after several years; my aunt started being rude and angry with us even if there was no fault. When did we ask her why her behavior towards us suddenly changed? She would blame it all on her past- similar things happened to her, which is why she is what she is today rather than accepting that she did not like us staying there anymore. The only reason we had to stay with my uncle and aunt was that my parents moved back and forth from the U.S.A. to India, and there was no one else to take care of us but my aunt’s family.
