DISCUSSION GUIDE:
Develop 4 paragraphs based on the questions below.
- Summarize the “changing view of the universe” in the video pointing the difference between “Geocentric theory of Ptolemy” vs “Heliocentric Theory of Copernicus”? What contributed to the shift in the theory? What is the major factor that influenced the Copernican revolution?
- What do you think is the main reason why the geocentric theory of Ptolemy existed as the working theory for almost 1500 years? What factor/s that contribute to its acceptance? Is there an external influence that allowed this theory to survive?
- Based on the information you knew in the above 2 questions and using what Aristotle said about truth, that truth is “What is the case, it says, it is the case or what is not the case, it says, it is not the case.” Answer these questions: Where does truth reside? Is it in the subject (the knower) or is it in the object (the object known)? Explain your answer?
- Why is it important to find the source of truth in epistemology –is it the subject or object? Why can’t we just say, that the subject is in-charged? What is wrong with this statement: “I am in charge of the truth, I have the truth with me” — just accept it.
